Forefoot Fusions: Why, What, When and How?

Welcome to the Liverpool Forefoot Fusion Course website

This is the first of a series of masterclasses which aim to teach the decision making, practical know how and skills to undertake safe surgery in targeted areas of the foot and ankle. The concept is not to compete with the more general courses but to complement them. It is aimed at Consultants and senior orthopaedic trainees who want to achieve greater confidence in their understanding of the more complex aspects of this surgery. It does this by adapting the same successful teaching techniques used in our Liverpool Forefoot Course but in a more focused way.

This course is on forefoot fusion techniques and includes 1st MTP joint,  PIP/DIP joints, 1st MT-Cuneiform joint and 2nd/3rd MT-Cuneiform joints.

Soft tissue handling and exposure is as important as the bone preparation and we are pleased to have secured the excellent teaching facilities of the Education Centre of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. The cadaver feet for the workshops will have been fresh frozen and so the tissues are closer to normal for feel and stretch. There will also be an image intensifier available so the attempts can be properly assessed and constructively criticised.

We have teamed up with Memometal who will be providing instruments and implants. Their additional educational grant has allowed us to keep the fee at a very favorable level for a course with a cadaver workshop. We are also fortunate to have support from De Soutter Medical, who are providing the power instruments and Vertec, UK who are providing imaging facilities.

We have an excellent local, national and international faculty who have been selected for their renowned expertise and teaching abilities.

We look forward to welcoming you to this course. As it has a high faculty to delegate ratio, numbers will be limited to 24 places.. The course is now going to be held in February or March 2011. If you would like to be kept informed about this then please fill in the registration form and we will email you details as they are available.
